With respect to this Hotel Carrolina postcard, I can assure you that Tuck did not misspell “Carolina.”
Although I live in Durham, NC, where the hotel once stood, I hadn’t heard of it until the other day when, metal detecting in my neighbor’s back yard, I found this circa 1900 key fob about five inches belowground.
That led me first to an article on a site about local architectural history (as a first-time poster, I can not include anymore links; the site is called Open Durham) and also to this site.
The Hotel Carrolina (named after its founder, Julian S. Carr) was relatively short-lived and was destroyed by fire in 1907.
